Are You Ready to Blog Out Loud?

Today’s the day! I hope to see you all at Blog Out Loud tonight. Don’t forget that Irene’s has a full menu for those who would like to have dinner. And they also have drinks, for those readers who may be getting cold feet.

The evening officially starts at 7 p.m., but I’ll be there from 6 p.m. onward, setting up and (ooooh) handing around swag. So feel free to come on by any time – grab a name tag and a seat, and open your ears.

If you’re sad to be missing out on BOLO this year, you can follow along with Tanya of Spydergrrl On The Web as she live-tweets the event @spydergrrl.

See you there!

Got ideas, suggestions, complaints, pie to share? Come up and say hello tomorrow at Blog Out Loud.

Come and See…Kids in the Capital!

Founded by Brie of Capital Mom and Lara of Gliding Through Motherhood, Kids in the Capital is Ottawa’s newest family-focused website. Local parents contribute a wide variety of posts, sharing some of the activities, attractions, events, and tips for things they love to do with their kids in this city. If you’ve got kids of any age, it’s a must-visit for ideas of places to go and fun activities to fill any length of time.

This spring, Lara started a photography series on the site. She shared her thoughts on how to take better pictures of children, and how to turn yourself into an impressive amateur photographer. She also invited readers to take part in her ABC photo challenge – to take one picture to represent key words she’d chosen for each letter of the alphabet. The photo group has really taken off, and many parents are now contributing fun and lovely photos of their kids. KITC will be displaying some of these shots at Blog Out Loud this year.

Two More Days!

Just two days left until Blog Out Loud…will you be there?

If you’ll be live-blogging or twittering during the event, please let me know, and I’ll post your blog and twitter info here for others to follow.

If you’ll be taking photos during the event, again, let me know and I’ll put your info up tomorrow, so BOLO attendees know all about it.

Come and Hear…Elizabeth of And Go and Culinerd!

Elizabeth is new to the blogging scene, but her two beautiful blogs already show a strong, clear voice. And Go, her personal blog, is a witty, whip smart series of essays about her personal life. You might find Elizabeth applying the sass to a concert review, what she’s learned from Twitter, her love/hate relationship with Facebook, and her love/hate relationship with Apple. While she’s being funny, Elizabeth can also make you nod in that, “Oh, SO TRUE,” kind of way.

She’s a tech junkie who loves her Xbox and Blackberry, and a nerd who loves Marvel comics and Dungeons and Dragons. She’s also a filmmaker who is working on a short film right now, both behind and in front of the camera.

And on top of all that, Elizabeth loves food so much that she started a second blog, Culinerd, just to share her favourite recipes. It’s full of fabulous, yummy looking treats and pictures so lovely you could lick your screen. You should definitely add her to your next brunch guest list — and have her bring dessert!

Come and support Elizabeth as she faces the blogger crowd for the first time at Blog Out Loud.

Come and Hear…Vicky of Some Kind of Wondermom!

Come and Hear…Vicky of Some Kind of Wondermom

Vicky really is Some Kind of Wondermom. She’s currently home with her three year old son and one year old daughter, and almost every post mentions an outing or craft or activity that keeps her kids busy and having fun. Her delightfully cheerful posts might talk about cake pops (totally drool-worthy), visits to the park, the end of nursing, or the sometimes too-challenging days of dealing with a preschooler. She also often posts about their outings over at Kids in the Capital.

She also often publishes reflective posts on what it means to be a mother, and how she feels about her own growth these past few years — posts that will resonate with any parent. She’s into cooking, and you can find some great recipes on her blog. And she’s also getting into photography, sometimes posting lovely shots of her kids, sometimes sharing a tip for new photographers.

Vicky will soon be heading back to teaching work… well, if she can muster up the enthusiasm. It’ll be a tough transition, and learning to balance home life and work life is sure to make for some great blog posts, if nothing else. Throw her current gym and weight loss challenges into the mix, and you have the makings of one serious Supermom.

Vicky’s a bit of a shy reader so she’s going to need lots of encouragement…come be part of her cheering section at Blog Out Loud.

Come and Hear…Don and Jenn of FoodiePrints!

Don and Jenn know food. They both grew up with parents who tended gardens, baked from scratch, and put a premium on home cooked meals. Now that they have a home of their own, they use their own small garden to try to outdo each other in the kitchen as often as they can. As Don says, “You aren’t going to heat up processed foods for someone you love.” Now that’s someone who knows food and knows love.

Don and Jenn blog together at FoodiePrints and their blog is full of recipes and dining-out experiences. You’ll find dozens of photos of mouth-watering food, and reviews of all kinds of different eateries and dishes. From the exotic to the simple, from home cooked to restaurant, there’s no end to the deliciousness. If you’re looking for a great place to eat in Ottawa, trust me, you want to check in with Don and Jenn first.

They are almost as passionate about their blog as they are about food, and you can often find them around the blogosphere commenting and reading and breaking bread over their computers. If you pop into Bridgehead Coffee on a weekend afternoon, be sure to check the dark corners for Don and Jenn, blogging away.

Hopefully they give Irene’s menu the stamp of approval at Blog Out Loud!
